Where to Eat in Vancouver: Kid and Adult Friendly Saucisse

Article by Jennifer Wilson, sharing the scoop on where to eat in Vancouver … or North Vancouver.
The New Fusion: Date Night Chic and Kid Friendly
If your dining out options have begun to resemble break-time at the recycling depot – think happy paper boxes, plastic toys and the odd cardboard pirate ship – then you need to start re-thinking dinner. I have a stylish and, even, date-night worthy restaurant idea: head to your cozy neighborhood bistro. Every good neighbourhood has one. From the outside, you might think these local gems are too uptight for your crew. Intimate seating, white tablecloths and a sleek bar probably don’t look like where to eat in Vancouver when the babysitter’s busy. But the truth is, these cozy, mid-to-upscale bistros are hoping you’ll stop by. After all, it’s repeat business from loyal neighbours that keep their businesses alive.
No Apologies Necessary When Deciding Where to Eat in Vancouver
The night we posted online about our pleasant dining experience with baby and toddler in tow at North Vancouver’s new Saucisse Restaurant, the owner (a mother of two herself) replied with her own tweet-out: “We love kids! Chef makes the best grilled cheese ;).” Ready and willing with a highchair, ample bathroom (with change-table) and a killer wine list, the waitstaff and hostess were warm, welcoming and happy to accommodate our junior foodies.
Parental highlight: the delicate winter salad, house-made garlic sausages and haute-Earnest Ice Cream will remind you of high heels, make-out sessions and the night you got engaged. Oh, and no Triple-O hangover. It really is the answer to where to eat in Vancouver.
Tips for Elevated-Dining Success
[unordered_list style=”bullet”]- Book an earlier dinner seating between 5:30 to 6:30pm. Kids will love the extra attention from waitstaff before tables start to fill up. You might even get a visit from Chef.
- Yes, you will want to ponder over the new-and-exciting menu, but why make the kids wait? Get your junior orders in as quickly as possible. And since there’s unlikely to be a designated kids-menu, ask what they can do for you or think staples: Mac n’ cheese, veggie plate, grilled chicken, rice.
- When you order your toddler a drink, ask for a short glass and a cocktail straw from the bar. Less liquid to dump into your shoes, and a better height for little-person lips.
- Order the kids’ dessert when you get your entrée. There is no better way to ensure you’ll eat in relative peace than a bowl of ice cream or a piece of cake.
