Imagination Stories Bring Play

As a young girl, my English grandma would send me books-on-tape and those tapes became one of my favourite presents to receive. I would listen to them at night before going to bed and enjoyed creating the characters in my head. I can still vividly remember listening to Matilda by Roald Dahl.

Local storyteller Stef Green of North Vancouver is the talent behind StefStation. Her collection of CDs provide delightful short tales for the two to five-year-old crowd. Stef has a flare for sharing stories with preschoolers in a way that engages them in imaginative play and encourages them to physically act out the characters and their experiences.

Imagination Stories Volume 1 has three energetic short stories that total around 20 minutes of listening time. Each story is a different adventure and encourages imagining all the things that you see along the way: animals at the farm, walking around looking for a tree house, and make-believe fishing gets your child moving and dreaming. I played it for my two-year-old son, and while he is on the younger side for these fun stories, he quite enjoyed hearing Stef’s voice while listening to the stories unfold. There is something about her English accent that seems to automatically charm toddlers. Each story is short enough to work well with the attention span of toddlers and would definitely grow with your child throughout their preschool years. The CD is perfect for a quiet time at home or to provide a bit of creative entertainment in the car.

I found the more I played the stories, the more my own child seemed to enjoy and anticipate what was coming next. Since my son Ben is only two, I needed to participate with him to get him into the stories, but an older child would love to play this CD again and again all on their own.
