Tips on Getting Ready for Back-to-School

Guest post by Joanna Kwan.

September is just around the corner and that means it’s back to school time! Your kids may not be super excited that they are going back to school, but parents do get a break when their kids are occupied with a regular schedule again. Here are some tips to prepare for going back to school before August ends.

Get your kids ready for bed at the same time as school nights at least week week before school starts.
Your kids may not like this idea, but you won’t regret it when the first day of school rolls around. They’ve had the whole summer to stay up all night and sleep in all day. If you wait till school starts to get them used to waking up early again, they will not have enough rest and may even fall asleep in class!

Get their minds ready for school again. Assign them books to read at least two weeks before school starts.
If you’re tough on your kids, you may assign them books throughout the whole summer. But if you like to give them a little bit of summer fun, giving them a book or two to read two weeks before school starts will help them get used to school work again. They should be novels that are interesting to your kids, because you still want them to enjoy what they’re reading.

Shop for back-to-school items early. Don’t leave it to last minute as stores sometimes run out of the best selection.
Every store now has back-to-school items ready. You should probably avoid leaving it till the last week of summer to start on your shopping. The stores usually look like a tornado hit the shelves by then and you will probably not be able to find all the items you need for school.

Organize their fall clothing.
Warm summer weather is ending soon and September gets cold fast. Take their fall clothing out again and get them organized. That way you can check if some clothes don’t fit anymore and you have more time to shop for new clothes.

Shop for snacks and juices ahead of time for lunch and recess.
On your weekend shopping list, add the items you need for your kids snacks for school. Things like cookies and juice boxes can be bought early so when the first week of school comes around, you and your kids will be fully prepared for class.

When your kids are well rested with a sharp mind and have all their school supplies ready to go, you can happily check off the chore of prepping your kids for school as they are well taken care of.
