December’s here, and we’re decking the halls. If you’re looking for some hands-on holiday fun for your little ones over the festive season, you’ve come to the right place. Holiday Fun at Park Royal
When you’re deciding what to do in Vancouver to prepare for the holidays, heading to the mall might seem like the obvious choice. With fun events, though, Park Royal in West Vancouver is kicking it up a notch. The Holiday Kids Zone, happening from 12:00-6:00pm every day, features holiday crafts, games movies and more. And on December 15 from 11:00am-3:00pm you can help out with the gingerbread house decorating at the Centre Court in Park Royal South. There’s also storytime, live music, and help with parking. Fun with Flour at SweetSalt Bakery & Café
Did someone say cookies? If holiday baking is on your list, this workshop is what to do in Vancouver this December. The new German bakery at 3497 Fraser Street is offering Christmas cookie baking sessions for kids four years old and up. Choose from December 8, 15 or 22, 2012, from 3:00-4:30pm. You’ll see how the dough is made, and then you’ll roll it out, cut the shapes and have hot chocolate while the cookies bake. Then you’ll decorate your creations and bring it all home in a box. It’s $25 per child, per session. Sign up in store, and pay in advance.
Felted Christmas Ornaments at Place des Arts
If you have a budding fibre artist on your hands, you’ll want to check out this workshop at Place des Arts at 1120 Brunette Avenue in Coquitlam. On December 6, 2012 from 6:00-9:00pm eight to fourteen year olds are invited create beautiful ornaments such as bejeweled Christmas balls or a garland of felted stars. And maybe, while your kids work, you can squeeze in a little holiday shopping in the arts centre’s Christmas Boutique. The class fee is $30.50. Ornament Making at Collage Collage
Collage Collage needs no introduction for most East Vancouver families. Drop by the shop at 621 Kingsway in East Vancouver for a fun family workshop, best suited to kids age six and up. There are two dates to choose from: December 12 or 19, 2012, from 4:00-5:30pm. The class is $25 for one adult and two kids, so everyone can get in on the fun. Celebrate Hanukkah at Christianne’s Lyceum
Christianne’s Lyceum of Literature and Art located at 3696 West 8th Avenue in Vancouver offers some truly unique programming, and things are no different over the holidays. If you’re wondering what to do in Vancouver to celebrate – or learn more about – Hanukkah, check out their event for three to five year olds on December 12, 2012. There are two sessions, from 9:00-11:30am or 12:30-3:00pm. You’ll read Hanukkah stories, eat latkes, play with dreidels and light the Lyceum hanukkiah.
