Skip your Shower and Head to the Blo Blow Dry Bar

As moms, we have so little time to have a shower — let alone one that is uninterrupted. So we sport our day-to-day hairstyles trying to disguise the lack of shampoo as best we can using ponytails, bobby pins, hats or more hairspray. Disguise achieved? Maybe, but it’s never the same as washed and blow-dried hair.

Problem solved: head to the Blo Blow Dry Bar in South Surrey.

The place

One of 12 Blo Blow Dry Bars in North America, this location opened in April 2010 in the new Morgan Crossing shopping area. It’s a stylish and chic location, all pink and white, nestled between clothing stores perfect for continuing to spoil yourself with catwalk-ready hair. The location is great – it reminds me of walking through Kitsilano and hitting the trendy stores.

The idea

The Blo Blow Dry Bar presents a new concept, perfect for moms-on-the-go or Moms treating themselves to a blow-dried do. Walk in or make an appointment and receive a wash and blow-dry only. Choose from seven different styles, from razor-straight Executive Sweet, to rocker-chic inspired Sex, Hugs and Rock & Roll.

They also make their own shampoos and products (except hairspray) and use biodegradable paper towels for drying to avoid wasting resources and energy from washing towels every day.

The try

As a working-at-home-mom of a toddler, I was excited to head to Blo Blow Dry Bar and give it a try. It’s the perfect solution for the busy days when I miss having a shower, either because of working or getting my son ready in the morning.

I took my one-and-half-year-old son with me and it was great. The Blo Cadets helped keep an eye on him, gave him stickers and interacted with him. They said they’ve often held and rocked babies while new moms got their hair done. There was even one woman who, having contractions, came in to get her hair blow-dried on her way to the hospital.

The style

I looked through the Blo Hair Menu but with short hair, my choices were limited. Most of the styles are based on medium to long hair, but I was able to tell them what I wanted–sleek in front and big in the back! It only took 30 minutes and I left looking much better than if I’d done it myself and I felt beautiful for the rest of the day.

The events

The Blo Blow Dry Bar also is a great place for moms to treat themselves to some time alone or on their way to a girls’ night out. The bar can also be rented for special events, such as bridal showers and little girl birthday parties. You can even book Blo On The Go services for weddings or fashion events.

Next time, I’ll go sans toddler and treat myself with some well-deserved me-time.
