The Sum of Great Style: Finding The Red-Hot Sales

By VancouverMom.ca Contributor Joyce Lau

It seems like it was just a couple weeks ago that we finally got some hot weather but now it’s “Back to School” promotions everywhere. It can be a little depressing but there’s good news. Everything is on sale! However, there’s a few things to keep in mind.

First, don’t buy anything on sale unless you’re willing to pay full price for it. If you just love the price, you’ll end up with a closet full of cheap clothes that you wear once and then hate the sight of them. Second, look for classic pieces that you can wear now, into the next season and next year. Finally, try to remember what you have in your closet so you don’t end up buying the same things over and over again.

Our first find is this very versatile top that’s got a little spunk. We love the way it cinches at the waistline to create a slim mid-section. The pattern & beading detail adds a little flavour and attitude; unlike those boring plain colour t-shirts that you own. And right away we know that its rich colours will allow us to wear it well into the Fall. By pairing it with these tan colour pants we got for $10, we’ve put together an easy going out look. Don’t forget you can wear it with jeans and sandals, white trousers or a jean skirt too (see July’s recommendation). As the weather gets chillier, wear it with black pants and layer it under a drape cardigan. Voila! You can now wear this $30 top in more ways than you think.

Shoes are easily overlooked because comfort is the #1 priority. However, there’s something sexy about wearing a high heel that makes you feel like a woman, and walk like a woman. For $39.97, lengthen your legs and give your husband something to think about.

Now, we know you need to carry everything from toys to snacks and everything in between. But it’s still YOUR bag, so wear it with style. Pick up this roomy handbag for $29.99 and use it all summer long…now and next year too.
