Shop ‘n’ Stroll

Don’t let the rain stop you from working out; join a FREE Shop ‘n’ Stroll session at your local mall. Your baby will love taking a backseat while you power walk and squat in front of them. You may even get a few squeals and claps afterward. Sessions are an hour, with the last few minutes saved to socialize with other parents, or to sneak off and grab that sweater you’ve been eyeballing. Oakridge Centre sessions run every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

Parent & tot swimming

Develop water skills with your tot at the Robert Lee YMCA. This is a fantastic introduction to a preschool swim lesson program for your child, a great way to get fit with baby, and an opportunity to learn more about water safety. Don’t forget the swim diaper. Drop-in classes are $5. If your baby is water shy, the YMCA holds daily play time sessions on the fifth floor for $2.

Fit for 2

You’ve seen them in the park: moms with strollers squeezing in a workout while their babes either snooze or watch from the comfort of their temporary home on wheels. It’s Fit 4 Two! They offer pre and post-natal classes all over Vancouver and they’ve been doing it for a long time. Not only will you get some much needed exercise but you meet other moms who might just become friends for life!
Interpretive dance
At least that’s what it looks like when we did it! The Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre offers a number of parent and tot dance classes. Not only do you get to work up a sweat, but your baby has an opportunity to develop some mad motor skills at the same time. Drop-in classes are $12 for ages 0 to 1. Toddler classes are also available for ages 1 to 3 at the same rate.
