A Collaborative Holiday Countdown, in Beer Form

I want to tell you about beer. But first, let’s get this bit of blasphemy out of the way: I don’t really care about chocolate. I mean, it’s good and everything, but I’d rather have cheese. Or wine. Or beer.
A Different Kind of Advent Calendar

The “Mystery Gift Holiday Countdown” features 22 of the best and most sought-after craft beers from Central City and Parallel 49, as well as two special collaboration beers, one from each brewery. The two collaboration beers are only available in this special mix – there’s no other way to try them this season.
A Beer Lover’s Holiday Countdown
The lighter of the two beers is Central City’s Dubbel Trubbel, is a classic Belgian Brown ale made with a world famous Belgian Abbey yeast. This collaborative brew between Central City and Parallel 49 breweries has an added twist with the infusion of rum-soaked raisins. It reminded me a bit of a spiced cider, with a hint of sweetness and a faint molasses taste, a little like yellow gingerbread and exactly what you’d want to drink on a crisp, clear winter day.
Parallel 49’s contribution is a Schwarzwald Chocolate Cherry Porter, a Black Forest cake-inspired brew filled with cocoa nibs and cherries. It was chocolatey, but not too chocolatey – it reminded me of cherry brandy, and is the kind of beer best suited to curling up in an armchair beside a fire with that book you’ve been dying to read and Christmas tree lights twinkling in the background.
The limited release “Mystery Gift Holiday Countdown” 24 bottle pack is now available in liquor stores and retails for $74.95. Happy holidays, indeed.
