What to do in Vancouver: CBC Musical Nooners

Looking for some free, kid-friendly Vancouver fun in the downtown core this summer? CBC Vancouver’s Musical Nooners are kicking off the 2013 season at noon today with hip-hop artist Shad. Back for its fourth season, the series will be continuing every weekday until August 23, 2013. There will be plenty of opportunities to add this to your list of what to do in Vancouver this summer.
What to do in Vancouver
Jon Siddall, lead producer for Musical Nooners, says, “We are really pleased with this year’s lineup, there is a lot of fantastic music to enjoy in a number of different styles, so get ready for some surprises. And, this year we’ve added more Latin music and a very entertaining Balkan big band.” If you’d like to take a show in, head to the plaza in front of the CBC at 700 Hamilton between noon and one.
“CBC Vancouver’s Musical Nooners has become one of the most highly anticipated events of the summer,” says Johnny Michel, managing director, CBC British Columbia. “Music bonds a community together and encourages us to be social through a shared artistic camaraderie. The artists that our producers have lined up are diverse and showcase some great local and even international talent.”
Free Kid-Friendly Vancouver Concerts
Whether you’re looking for something to do on your lunch hour, or you want some kid-friendly Vancouver fun that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, Musical Nooners are a good time. We checked them out last year, as well. If you go, the grassy area is pretty small, so you need to get there a little early if you prefer grass to concrete. Also, you’ll find bike parking and some street parking for cars at the CBC building, but space is limited. Transit might be your best bet, if you’re not within walking distance.
If you’re adding this to your list of what to do in Vancouver this summer, you might want to know who’s performing. Following Shad on July 5, 2013, you’ll see Shairah on July 8, Jasper Yip on July 9, Stephanie Pedrazza on July 10, ByStarlight on July 11 and Kylee Epp on July 12, 2013.
