Vancouver Mom to Follow: Krista McRae

This week’s Mom to Follow is YouTube vlogger and Instagram fanatic Krista McRae. This young mom to 8-month old Kaila, was born and raised in North Vancouver and recently married her elementary school sweetheart Ben. They started creating family vlogs when she became pregnant during her 3rd year at Capilano University where she was studying communications (so her love for social media was undeniable). She and Ben have a fun time documenting their family’s journey through photography and videography. Being able to later look back and relive some of their favourite memories through video holds special meaning to this super cute couple.
Five places Krista loves in Metro Vancouver
Deep Cove
This is probably a given for anyone who grew up in North Van! Deep Cove is absolutely gorgeous and has SO much to offer families. We spend a lot of our time in and around the area. From hiking Quarry rock, paddle boarding in the Cove, brunchin’ at Honey’s & Cafe Orso, sipping on lattes at the park, or enjoying all the fun Summer concerts, you really can’t go wrong!
Karen Magnussen Pool
We are big fans of the wave pool let me tell ya! My husband and I actually had our second date here at just 9 years old, isn’t that crazy!? Now here we are taking our baby girl every week! Ever since our trip to Hawaii this past Fall, Kailia has become quite the little fish and though Karen Magnussen is no Hawaiian island it does fulfill her need to splash around. It’s got a great big wave pool for swimming, a cute little kiddie pool for splashing, and a nice warm tub for relaxing (as much as you can with a baby in your arms that is!
Lynn Valley Library
My babe is an avid bookworm and has been since she was about 4-months-old. Offer her a toy and a book, no matter how cool the toy, she’ll always choose the book! So when we took her to the library for the first time, I kid you not she was in heaven! The Lynn Valley library is one of our faves because they have such a great kids section, and it’s always so cozy and peaceful (not to mention the Delaney’s coffee house is just next door). On our most recent trip to the library Kailia crawled for the very first time to go grab some new books off the shelf! So this place will always have a special spot in our hearts.
HomeSense
This one may sound kind of silly to some… but as a mom or even a dad (I know I’ve trained my hubby well) shopping for home decor is a crazy addiction I’ve developed ever since getting a place and having kids. It’s like the pregnancy term ‘nesting’ only it never ends! We make a trip to our local Homesense at least twice a week and I have no shame! It’s a mom thing.
Ambleside
Living in Vancouver it would be weird not to mention a spot somewhere at the beach! Our favourite is Ambleside because not only is there tons of sand to play in, there’s a great big field to run around on, a super cute (and Instagram worthy) playground for the babes, and a totally beautiful (stroller-friendly) walk along the ocean. We are so lucky to live on the West Coast.
