Vancouver Mom: Marla Brock

Marla is a self-described entrepreneur, strategist, nerd, wife, mom and an American expat (4.5 years and counting) living in Vancouver. Once upon a time, she was a corporate lawyer, but now she builds companies that solve everyday problems for folks and families. “I’m equal parts workaholic and playaholic – and living in this awesome city enables me to indulge in both. My two boys and baby girl keep me on my toes – and I wouldn’t trade this chaotic, joyful life for anything on the planet.”
Marla Brock’s favourite spots around town
Yaletown Brewing Co.
Parents can feel like grown-ups and the children are well catered to (love those chinese takeout boxes filled with kid stuff). Try to grab a patio seat for people watching.
1111 Mainland St, Vancouver, (604) 681-2739
Neverland Tea Co.
Although it’s wildly popular now, my gal pal and I often squeeze our strollers in for a sit-down over tea and scones – yum!
3066 West Broadway, Vancouver, (604) 428-3066
UBC Museum of Anthropology
My boys just love this place – and we’ve taken them since they were toddlers. It teaches the ever important “don’t touch” rule – and the staff is very kind.
6393 NW Marine Dr, Vancouver, (604) 822-5087
Sushi Sushi
This is a last minute dinner for us – perhaps once a week. They are extremely accommodating of my requests (cut small for child, no green parts in the tofu soup, no cucumber…you get my drift).
2965 West Broadway, Vancouver, (604) 730-8164
Pacific Spirit Park
Boys’ moms will know what I mean when I say “we need to run our boys.” This place is breathtakingly awesome – rain/shine any season.
5495 Chancellor Blvd, Vancouver, (604) 224-5739
Seashore West of Kits Beach
My boys call this “the rocky beach.” Follow the path from the Kitsilano Yacht Club westward until it ends. Perfect for uncovering sand critters, picnics and sunsets.
Point Grey Road, Vancouver
La Buca
Amazingly authentic food in a cozy setting. Great for a date night and close to home (for us).
