Best of Vancouver Newborn Photographers: Finalists Five and Six
During February you submitted your nominations for the best of Vancouver newborn photographers. Newborn babies are magical, and those first photos of them are so precious. You want to make sure you’re trusting the right person to capture the perfect shot. Our judges reviewed all of your nominations, and narrowed it down to the top 10. Today we’re happy to tell you about the fifth and sixth finalists, presented in no particular order.
Sherri Koop Photography
Sherri Koop is a mom to two wonderful boys who inspire her every day. She is also an artist, and her camera is one of the tools she uses to express her creativity. What sets her apart from other newborn photographers in Metro Vancouver is that she is a committed film photographer. Her clients often tell her how unique their images look for this exact reason. Images are still available as digital images as I recognize how important it is for my clients to be able to share their images over email and social media. But Sherri believes that even in this amazing digital age, there is truly nothing like holding a hand-printed black and white film enlargement in your hands. Or better yet, seeing it as an art piece hanging in your home.
Sherri particularly enjoys photographing newborns, as she shares: “I have been photographing newborns for nearly a decade…and can say with sincerity and gratitude that I absolutely love every moment of the experience. I approach each newborn session with a heavy dose of patience and compassion. I never place a time limit on the session…and offer some gentle guidelines to make the experience as positive and calm as possible.” For many families the newborn/family session within the first week is simply overwhelming, so Sherri splits it up. Within the first week, she captures the baby – everything from details of fingernails and eyelashes, to that beautiful peach fuzz, and of course a newborn portrait. Then she meets her clients sometime in the next six to eight weeks for the family session. It really is a win-win.

Sugarlily Studios
Alisha Therrien of Sugarlily Studios loves photography. Some of her other passions in life are date night with her husband, building Lego with her boys, playing dress up with her little girl, hitting the trails with her dog, going out for coffee with her friends and cinnamon buns…mmm!
Alisha always had a passion for photography so opening Sugarlily Studios was a natural choice. She’s located in Maple Ridge and she specializes in maternity, newborn and baby photography. Her focus during each and every session is to have fun, relax and capture images that are simple and modern in design, while focusing on the baby and not the props. She says: “At Sugarlily, we create memories that you will never forget!”
