Stork Craft Crib Recall

Stork Craft Crib Recall

Richmond-based Stork Craft is undergoing the largest crib recall in history.

All Stork Craft cribs manufactured between May 2000 and November 2008 are part of this voluntary recall. To find the manufacturing date, look for the lower right hand corner of the instruction sheet which is glued on the mattress base.

The metal support brackets used to support the mattress frame can crack and break if incorrectly installed and stress is applied. The mattress then could potentially collapse with a dangerous gap between the mattress and crib rails in which the baby can become entrapped and suffocate.

Health Canada suggests that all consumers with cribs manufactured between these dates should contact Stork Craft to receive a free replacement kit with new mattress support brackets. The cribs do not be returned. However, if you find that the brackets have been compromised and may create an unsafe environment for your child, do you not use the crib and find an alternative safe place for them to sleep.

Note that according to the Toronto Star, the CEO of Storkcraft was “blindsided” by the early release of the recall and subsequently the company had not adequately prepared information for consumers on their web site. Access to the Stork Craft site is currently extremely slow.
