Inspire Blossoming Artists with Music Classes

Do music classes hold the key to creativity? Contributor Leeanne Ekland says yes.

We all know that kids are naturally the most creative creatures on the planet. They have brilliant imaginations that many of us adults can only aspire to. But what happens to their imaginations over time? It’s hard to say as there are many influences, but my guess is that life gets in the way.

Keep the Creativity of Childhood

What if there were a way to teach our children to remain tapped into that creativity that comes with a wild imagination? What if they could learn to trust their creative mind without having to work at it? As you may have already guessed, I’m about to tell you how this can be done. But it may not be what you expect.

Art classes and tactile craft making are brilliant ways to reinforce creativity in children that can be used in later years. But music classes – specifically classes taught at Colourstrings – are a sure fire way to inspire blossoming mini artists in Vancouver. Colourstrings is an innovative, child-centered approach to music education that incorporates Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze methods to help kids absorb music intuitively.

Music Classes at Colourstrings

Colourstrings offers music classes for different age groups.

2-3 Year Olds

Each week children are taken on an imaginary adventure in which they explore musical concepts and rhythmic development through singing and creative movement activities using beanbags, hoops and percussion instruments. Self-esteem and social skills develop alongside a gradual independence necessary for children to focus on the music.

3-6 Year Olds

Children participate independently of their parents, which means you can check out the VSO Cafe if you are at the downtown location, or other cafes that are convenient to their other locations. With 45 minute classes, you have just enough time to sip a hot beverage and read the paper. Update your blog or just enjoy the peace and quiet as your child connects to the music in a profound way.

Unleash Your Inner Diva

If you take home the books and CDs in the free activity pack you can experience the music classes with your child at home.

For a parent like me who’s always been afraid of singing in public, singing with my child has unleashed the operatic diva I know, (well maybe not exactly) I can be.

Check out Colourstrings and watch your child grow musically, right before your eyes. The programs eventually prepare kids for Conservatory levels, it’s that good.
