Amber Strocel is a writer, aspiring math teacher, suburbanite, wife and mom of two. She believes in the power of the Internet to connect people, and she believes that numbers are the poetry of the universe. You can often find her knitting, sewing, volunteering, working in her garden, and sneaking chocolate when no one's looking. She blogs at Strocel.com and shares her photos on Instagram as @AmberStrocel.
So I only have a couple of suggestions since mine is only in preschool (and all she needs is snacks and shoes).
Dollarama. Really. Your son/daughter wants that Lightning McQueen/Princess of the Day lunchbox? $3 maximum. Also, paper, pens, crayons, lunch containers, etc. Avoid the candy/chip aisle especially if you have a wee one along. Let’s put it this way: I have looseleaf left from my university days 10 years ago. I won’t have to buy paper until she’s in grade 7 at least.
And from my own mother’s lips: go through the stuff from last year, see how much you have. Buy what you need to get through the first 2-4 weeks. In that 2-4 week time period, all the back to school stuff goes on sale to make room for Halloween (unless you’re Costco and then you have Christmas decorations in AUGUST. So wrong).
