Mom to Follow: Heather van Mil, Healthy Family Expo

This week’s Mom to Follow is Heather van Mil, founder of Word of Mom Marketing, Digital Marketing Manager of the Healthy Family Expo, and blogger at www.LifeLoveandthePursuitofPlay.com.

Growing up in Toronto made her appreciate all that the West Coat has to offer: “Both of my girls are incredibly energetic and I love that we have so many gorgeous parks, beaches and trails to explore right at our doorstep. Being active is so ingrained in the lifestyle here that making healthy choices for your family is much simpler. Everyday I get to introduce the brands that support this way of living to the families who want their products and services.”

Heather’s Favorite Spots

Maplewood Farms

My girls are animal obsessed and love going to the farm to feed the ducks and get up close and interactive with the goats and other animals.

John Lawson Park

The recent revamp turned this already great park into a waterfront wonderland for kids of all ages. Both my 2 and 6-year-old have lots of fun with all the many unique structures, and as parents, it doesn’t get much better then a coffee with a gorgeous view (the water and the kids)!

Quarry Rock Trail in Deep Cove

This is our favourite family hike. Easy enough for the kids to do, but just enough challenge that it feels like a good workout. Ending it with a treat in the cove makes for the perfect day.

Boat Rentals in Deer Lake Park

We often spend a weekend renting a canoe, kayak or paddleboat and floating around this beautiful lake, looking for turtles, birds and dragonflies.
6450 Deer Lake Ave, Burnaby, (604) 294-7450

Ambleside Beach

One of the only places to find a sandy beach on the North Shore, Ambleside is a perfect spot with an area for swimming, and playground, a concession stand, and lots of fun watching the cruise ships go in and out of the harbour.

Lonsdale Quay

There is so much to do at the Quay. We can make a day out of playing in the ball pit, window shopping the various unique stalls and shops, wading in the fountain, listening to the many various buskers, eating delicious food, and, of course, going for a ride on the sea bus.

CocoFroyo

This hidden gem in Edgemont Village is heaven for adults and kids alike with sweet tooth. Choosing from an array of ice creams and sorbets, plus adding any combination of toppings from the amazing buffet makes creating your dessert an experience in itself.
